About Windsurf Arena Mode
Arena Mode is a Windsurf feature that brings side-by-side AI model comparison directly inside the IDE, letting developers run the same prompt through two different models simultaneously to evaluate output quality on real coding tasks. It organizes models into Frontier Arena and Hybrid Arena battle groups, and ships alongside Plan Mode, which adds structured task-planning before code generation begins. Both features are available to all Windsurf users. Alternatives: Cursor's model switching (allows changing AI models mid-session for comparison, though not side-by-side), LLM Arena / Chatbot Arena (web-based blind A/B model comparison by LMSYS but not IDE-integrated), GitHub Copilot model selection (lets users toggle between OpenAI and Anthropic models within the IDE), Cline with BYOK (manually test different API providers in the same VS Code environment for cost and quality comparison).
